Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us. — Ephesians 3:20
A few years ago, I remember going into a store to buy some food. My coworker and I walked into the restaurant, ordered our food, and were standing and waiting near the counter. I remember talking to the people behind the counter, who were asking us about our work and making small talk. We talked for 5-10 minutes and then they handed us each a bag.
When we got the bags, the worker looked at us and said, “I hope you have a blessed night. I put some extra in there for you to help you make it through the night.” We said thank you and left, not opening our bags until we got into our vehicle. He was not kidding. Not only was the food that we ordered in the bags, but they had given us a lot more than we had asked for.
That reminds me so much of how things are with God. When I accepted Jesus Christ as Savior, I really didn’t know what all to expect. I knew that I needed forgiveness of sin and that I was in need of a Savior. I didn’t know what I would need years down the road.
Now, looking back, I have a similar feeling each day with God as I did that day opening the bag of food. I expected salvation and forgiveness of sin, but I had no idea what other things I was getting! Not only did I get a Savior, but I received so much more. I received a friend, someone to confide in, a helper, a sustainer, and the list goes on and on.
How about you? Can you say that you got more than you asked for? I have no doubt anyone would answer that question by saying yes. Years before I knew what I would need, He knew and was already prepared to take care of it. He gave me so much more than I ever asked for and for that, we can truly praise Him today. Be thankful for a God that gives us more than we asked for.
