For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. — John 3:16

Once I had a coworker who explained to me that his wife really enjoyed reading romance novels. He tried to explain to me that it was not trashy romance novels, but rather love stories as he put it. He shared how those love stories were so dreamy to her and that she often talked about them with him.

It was quite funny because he shared with me that he didn’t care for those books. He was not a romantic type of guy who liked to express his feelings. Instead, he preferred to show how much he loved her through what he did for her. He kept an immaculate yard, did all the cleaning and cooking, and even spent countless hours caring for their children.

There are a lot of people that would claim that the type of love he showed his wife was not real love. They would claim that he should have taken her on romantic dates, bought her the nicest things in life, or perhaps many other things. There are places for some of those things, but there’s something to be said about someone that loves someone so much to go out of their way to do something for them.

We see that in the example of Jesus coming to this world to die for our sins. We did not deserve what Jesus did for us on the cross. In fact, we deserved a cruel punishment for our sins. It doesn’t matter how many sins or what kind of sins. Sin is sin and if we had received what we deserved we would all be in hell.

But God loved us so much that He made a way of salvation through Jesus Christ. Jesus was sent to this world to die for our sins in the greatest example of love through sacrifice that this world has ever known. It may not be romantic and flashy as the world would like to have the story be, but it’s a true example of love. It’s God’s amazing love for us.
