I will remember the works of the LORD: surely I will remember thy wonders of old. — Psalm 77:11

Not so long ago I remember reading the story of a dad that went to play golf with his sons at a famous golf course. He was excited as he and his three sons set out to play at the famous Pebble Beach golf course. He made a statement about that day and said “this was the greatest day of my life.”

I’m certain that he had a lot of good days up to that point. After all, he had at least three children. Those were three great days when they were born. He no doubt had many other experiences in his life that he thought were great days. But as he looked back over all the days he had lived, he declared this one as the best day of them all.

I have no doubt he certainly enjoyed that day. But once that day was over, it was simply a day that had passed. It was a memory. That day was unable to be lived over again and the events of that day did not provide a major change in his life.

As I read the story, I asked myself the question of what is the greatest thing to happen to me. I loved the day I was married to my wife. I was thrilled the day I first met my son in China whom I had prayed for for over a year. Those were both exciting days in my life. If I have to be honest though, those were not the greatest things to ever happen to me.

Each and every day of my life has some memory attached to it, but there’s one day that changed my eternity. The greatest thing to happen to me was many years ago when I accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior. Sure, it’s a memory that I recall, but it’s a life-changing moment that continues to affect every day of my life today. If you look back over your life, cherish the memories that you have. They are important. Most important of all is that you have had a life-changing experience with Jesus. It’s the greatest thing that could ever happen to you.
