But I will sing of thy power; yea, I will sing aloud of thy mercy in the morning: for thou hast been my defence and refuge in the day of my trouble. — Psalm 59:16
It was not so long ago I was sleeping and was startled by a strong storm outside our home. The lighting flashed and the thunder cracked. It was a pretty intense storm. Not far from our home, there was a tornado that had destroyed property and during the storm it certainly seemed like that exact scenario could have played out at our home.
It seems that many times the storms of life come to us at night. David certainly understood that. I have no doubt that David spent many sleepless nights, especially around the time of this Psalm. Saul was looking to kill David and David was running for his life.
No doubt many of us have felt that way in our own lives. Maybe you didn’t have someone looking to kill you, but perhaps it was the troubles, heartaches, and cares of life that seemed like they were looking to destroy you. The night brings about so many unknowns because of the darkness. It can leave you feeling alone and helpless.
I think that’s certainly part of what David had in mind in this verse. He said he would sing aloud of God’s mercy in the morning. He knew that throughout the troubles of the night, God was protecting him and helping him. He knew that it was the grace of God that led to him seeing the light of another day.
Maybe you have found or currently find yourself in the middle of a dark night of your life. Perhaps the storm is raging outside and there may be fear of what is going to happen. Remember that morning is coming! God will show His grace and power through any situation you face. It may not be on our time, but in God’s time morning is coming!
