And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. — Exodus 3:14
I was in a conversation with someone not so long ago where they were talking about things from the past. They were telling me about who used to be in a certain position, how they used to work with someone else, and they then shared several other names. I have to confess, I did not know a single person they mentioned.
Not that I should have. I was not around during the times that this person was describing. I was somewhere else engaged in other situations and circumstances. I am sure that you can relate to a situation similar to this in your life as well.
The point is that life is filled with a lot of people who used to be something. They perhaps used to be Christians, used to be coworkers, used to be friends, etc. It isn’t always that they ceased to exist entirely, but they ceased to exist in the way that they were once known.
That is not the case with God! Thousands of years ago, He said to Moses, “I AM.” It was a statement that perfectly identified our God. He was someone who had been in the past. In his comment, He knew that the children of Israel would know exactly who he was by saying “I AM.”
Just as much as He had been in the past, the statement also exemplified who He was then. He was God in the past, and he was still God when He said this to Moses. The people around the world may have changed, but God had not changed.
What’s even more amazing is that the statement not only identified who He was, who He was at the time, but it also identified that He would always be God. In other words, with just two words, God said I was, I currently am, and I always will be.
Do not doubt God in your current situation. Do not doubt that He is present and able to take care of any situation in your life. He was God yesterday, is God today, and will forever be God into the future!
