For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many. — Mark 10:45

Our society today has either become or is, the most self-centered society to ever exist. Don’t get me wrong, I certainly love being able to get something exactly the way that I want it. But how quick are we to expect things our way and get mad when we do not get it?

I often hear from people as I talk with them about how someone became upset because of a mistake. Perhaps it was a waitress or a person in a retail position. I have heard them share stories of being cursed at, belittled, harassed, and much more. The stories are shocking in many instances and depressing in others.

Christ gave us a great example of interacting with others in life. It was not an example of belittling, harassing or mistreating others. It was an example of love, compassion, ministry, and service. It seems that these characteristics are often overlooked and misplaced in our current state.

As Christians, God expects us to live an example for those around us. If we are the person who is acting in a manner that is not Christ-like, not only is it a reflection on our character, but also a reflection on the God who we claim to represent.

We are not called to be perfect, but we are called to be different. We may lose our temper at times, but how we respond to those situations is what sets us apart. Let us pray that God would guard our hearts and minds to live the right kind of example in front of others. Not that we live a self-centered lifestyle, but that we live a selfless lifestyle.
