Help, Lord; for the godly man ceaseth; for the faithful fail from among the children of men. — Psalm 12:1
The world around us is in pretty rough shape. We live in a world where it seems that you can profess to be a Christian on one hand, but live any way you want on the other. That seems to be what David was describing in this verse.
When David refers to the godly man and the faithful, he is referring to those who should be taking a stand for the things of God. Those who should be living their lives set apart for God. Instead, he goes on to describe how those were not living up to what should be expected.
We can certainly relate in our day. We can look around our world and sometimes it can seem difficult to find those who may be real Christians. Sure, many will claim to be Christian, but to be Christian is to be different from the sin and wickedness of the world.
We see people who claim to be Christians that are bold in their stance and approval of murder, under the disguise of abortion. They have no issue with the oppression of people by world leaders, all in the name of trade benefits and national progress. Being a Christian is not about convenience, it’s about being true and dedicated to God.
It’s disappointing and disgusting to see the things that are happening. Amid all the sin and wickedness of our world, we need Christians who are willing to live up to the standards of God. That does not mean living perfect, but it does mean that we do everything in our power to stay away from sin and wickedness.
We have a ton of people who claim to be Christian when it is convenient. They may claim to be Christians at church or when it’s socially beneficial, but our world does not need worship day Christians. Our world needs people who are willing to be Christian on Main street each and every day.
Just as David prayed, we should be praying for Christians in our day. We need the help of God for those Christians who may have lost the way. We also need God’s help for us to remain faithful to the cause. The world needs us to help be a light in the darkness.
