A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother. — Proverbs 18:24

It has always amazed me how we meet people in life. I will never forget traveling across the country for work and meeting people all across the country. While I may not work with them anymore, some of us still remain friends. Other people may live in one area their entire life and they seem to know everyone in that area.

While we may meet a lot of people or know a lot of people, we will not always be close friends with those people. A friend is someone that we are close with. We want to spend time with our friends, talk with them, and we share things with them that we may not share with anyone else we know.

A real friend remains close under all conditions. They do not come and go because of separation or life changes. Through the toughest times of life, a real friend sticks with you. They are there for you no matter what happens. You can have a lot of acquaintances, but life will only bring about a few close friends. There is something special about friendship that is hard to explain.

I will never forget the statement credited to the cartoon character Winnie the Pooh. It is, “A day without a friend is like a pot without a single drop of honey left inside.” Thankfully, for the Christian, not a single day goes by that we do not have a friend by our side. No matter where we go, what we face today, or what may come tomorrow, God will never leave our side. Even when those we meet in life may leave us, He is still there for us. He is a friend that sticks closer than a brother.
