I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith — 2 Timothy 4:7

We often hear the comparison of Christian life to that of a race or to that of a fight. It’s the idea that life is a challenge that must be overcome until, at the end, we receive our reward. So many times we look at this Scripture and we simply think about life in a long term sense, but what about today?

There’s not a single day that goes by where we do not face challenges and circumstances. Whether we realize it or not, the Christian life is a constant work. While I know that we are to focus on the finish, how are we focused on the day that is before us?

Each and every day that we live, our goal should be to finish that day well. We should be focused on beginning and ending our day with God, starting the day in His will and ending the day in His will. We should want to be close to Him and focused on any way we can show the love of Christ to others.

Life is an endurance race and as Hebrews 12:1 tells us we should run the race with patience. It is the idea of consistency. While we want to focus on the finish, we should also focus on the race. We should want to finish each day well and consistent. If we do, then we will finish the course of life and can also say we have fought a good fight, finished our course, and kept the faith.
