Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. — Galatians 5:1
There are so many things around this world that would like to consume us and it is human nature to fall into these traps. Our flesh loves the things of this world, while our heart knows it should be seeking God. In any aspect of your life, you can no doubt think of many things that would like to wrap you up and in essence, put you in bondage.
This verse in Galatians is a reminder that we were all once in bondage, bondage to sin. But Jesus Christ paid that debt for our sins and set us free! Because He set us free, we no longer have to live in bondage to the things of this world. We can stand for truth in any circumstance.
That is exactly what it says here, that we should stand in the liberty that Christ gave us in our forgiveness for sin. We are not to wrap ourselves up in the sins of this world that would like to pull us away from our walk with God. This is a reminder of the importance of freedom and the price for freedom.
So many people talk about freedom these days and freedom is important. But we can never forget that freedom comes with a price and our freedom from sin came at a price. We should not bow to the leaders and pressures of this world that would like to drag us back into the mire. We must stand in the freedom that Christ gave us through the forgiveness of our sins.
