Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish’s belly. — Jonah 2:1
There are so many times in life that we find ourselves in the middle of a disaster. Disasters come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. Sometimes they are disasters that are beyond our control. Other times, we put ourselves right in the middle of a disaster.
Such is the case here with Jonah. He was doing fine, but he made a choice that landed him in the middle of a disaster. God specifically told him to do something and he refused. He was out of the will of God and found himself in the belly of a fish.
So what do you do when you are in the middle of a disaster? The key is found here in verse 1. It says that Jonah prayed to God in the middle of his disaster. Right there in the belly of the fish, Jonah prayed.
I’m reminded of a statement by Max Lucado where he said that the “power of prayer is in the One who hears it and not in the one who says it.” No matter the situation, prayer is the greatest resource that a Christian has at their disposal. Not because of the person that may say the words, but because of the almighty God who hears.
