What type of example are you?

What type of example are you?

Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother’s way. — Romans 14:13

If you are like me, I heard my parents say often when I was growing up that I needed to be a good example. I was often told to remember who I was and who I represented when I left home. The reason it was so important to be a good example is that there are always good and bad examples.

I’ll never forget a supervisor I had in one of my first jobs. He often shared that you learn from the mistakes of the bad examples. There was so much truth behind that statement that I never realized when I was younger.

Throughout life, we constantly watch what others do. We watch the consequences of their actions. Those consequences can have several different effects on someone. It can cause them to fall into the same action or cause them to run from that action.

Here in Romans, the Scripture teaches us that we should not put a stumblingblock, or anything that could cause another Christian to fall, in their way. The idea of a stumblingblock is both that of an actual action that causes a sin, or an example that could lead someone to sin.

What type of example are you? Are you the good example that is showing others the Savior who lives within and guides you? Or are you the bad example that causes others to sin? We should strive to be a good example for anyone that may be looking at our life as a guide.
