The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever. — Isaiah 40:8
In the past couple of weeks, I have had a new experience as I left my house in the morning. Here in the south, we have been met with warm, humid mornings for quite some time. But there have been some cool mornings in the past few weeks. Some that required a jacket as I went about my morning. It is a sign of coming change.
Change is something we see all around us. From the changing of seasons, the changing of leadership, changing of preferences, and even small details like changing of clothes. We have grown accustomed to some level of change. There are times, however, that change is a little more uncomfortable.
I think about many who have lost loved ones due to the COVID pandemic. Others who have had changes in life due to serious accidents, or even perhaps medical conditions that were beyond prevention. Change like that can be difficult to handle.
I am thankful that we have a source of strength in those times of change. Here in Isaiah 40:8, it tells us that things are going to change. We are going to see things die around us, things will fade and life will be different at certain times. One thing never changes and that is the word of God.
He promised His strength in times of need, His comfort in times of distress, and His love when we may feel unlovable. He said that He would never leave us or forsake us. He said He would go with us all the way. Things in life are going to change, but God’s word and His promises never will.
