And he must needs go through Samaria.; Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well; There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water. – John 4:4,6 & 7
The story of the woman at the well is very well known. How Jesus went to Samaria and sat down on the well and asked her for water. But through the story, He shared that He could give her living water so she would never thirst again.
But an often overlooked part of the story is verse 4, where it says that Jesus “must needs go through Samaria.” The Jews would travel around Samaria, a trip that many suggest was around 100 miles, just to avoid the Samaritans. But Jesus needed to go through Samaria because he was looking for an interaction with someone specific. After their interaction, she left her water pot and went to tell others about Jesus.
God is looking for people that are willing to be about His work. He’s not looking for just anyone, but he is looking specifically for you. So many times we say that God would not look for someone like me, but the scriptures tell a different story. God used farmers, fishermen, a prostitute, kings, healthcare workers, tax collectors, soldiers, and many more. He overlooked their background and past seeing what they were capable of doing.
God is still looking for people that will be about His work today, no matter where they are and what they do. Are you available and willing to serve Him?
