For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia. — 2 Timothy 4:10
It wasn’t so long ago, I was watching a show on television which showed someone leaving the show. The story was written so that the departure seemed logical within the storyline. Two people became upset with each other and in anger, one decided to leave.
While it was a story fit for television, it wasn’t too far from the truth. There are certainly times in life when two people do not get along and someone will end up walking away. Even if it was two people who were close friends, things can happen that cause them to walk away.
We don’t know the details of Demas leaving Paul, we just know it happened. When Paul needed a friend the most, Demas left him. How terrible that must have been in that moment for Paul.
Chances are, someone reading these words has had that exact same experience. You needed a friend, but out of convenience, that friend left you. And possibly right when you needed it the most.
Thankfully, God is a friend who sticks closer than any brother, who will never leave you nor forsake you. While there may be people who forsake you in this world, God never will. If you need a friend, He will be the best friend that you ever had!
