For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. — Isaiah 55:8

We were sitting in the car and I was talking to my wife about something. As we continued to talk, I realized that traffic had not moved in front of us for quite some time. Traffic was heavy and the lights were seeming to be off sync from their normal pattern. It was a slow process moving closer to the stoplight.

As we were about 3 cars behind the stoplight, I saw the lights change to green. Almost immediately, I heard my son say from the back seat, “What are you doing people?” He was upset the drivers in front of us had not moved yet. In his mind, the lights was green and those cars should have hit the gas pedal and sped through the light.

I tried to explain to him that the cars were waiting on traffic ahead of them. There were cars clearing the intersection, traffic was heavy on the other side of the light also. While he wasn’t happy about the cars waiting, he understood that sometimes we don’t always see what’s ahead from our perspective.

As Christians, we often do the same thing with God. We often want to tell Him what to do in our lives and how to handle circumstances that we face. But many times we don’t know what lies ahead. God does! He knows what He is doing as He guides our way through this life.

It can be a challenge when we don’t fully understand God’s thoughts and ways from our perspective. Our response shouldn’t be to tell Him what to do, but rather trust Him. We should ask that God help us understand His path, so that we might follow closely in His will for our lives.
