Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast. — Hebrews 6:19

Many years ago, I had the opportunity to visit Battleship North Carolina. It was commissioned in 1941 and was said to be the most powerful battleship of the time. It was utilized in World War II across the Pacific and was even at Pearl Harbor for some time. But by 1947, it was no longer needed and decommissioned. Many years later, it was sent to Wilmington, NC, where it still resides today.

As I toured the ship, I was amazed at the size. The large guns that were on the deck were impressive. I was amazed to see all the various components that you could tour. But one thing specifically stood out to me. I was amazed at the size of the anchor on display on the ship’s top deck.

The anchor provides safety and security for a ship when needed. In fact, the best way to keep a ship steady, safe, and secure is to drop the anchor. If the anchor is strong enough, it can hold the ship in place, no matter how much the wind and seas lash out against the ship.

The key is that the anchor has to be strong enough. Our hope, which is in Jesus Christ, should be the anchor of our soul. It should keep us sure and steadfast in life. But it requires that our anchor is strong enough. In other words, our hope must be sure and unwavering in Jesus.

How is your anchor? Maybe you feel like you are being tossed around by life. Perhaps it feels like the trials and struggles will soon break you. If you are anchored in Jesus, have no fear. It doesn’t matter what this world may bring; your anchor is secure if it is in Him! Just trust Him!
