They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing. — Psalm 92:14
Throughout my life, I have met a variety of different kinds of people. There are those who seem to have their life together. They enjoy their life, the things that life can bring about, and seem to have happiness about them. Then, there are others who seem to be down and disappointed all the time. It is as if nothing good ever happens to them.
If we are honest, we can all probably think of people like this in our lives. Chances are, names of people went through your mind as you read that statement, or perhaps you even had a little chuckle as you thought about it. What makes the difference in these types of people? Some might say that those who are happy are flourishing, and by definition, that seems true.
Flourishing means that someone is living a fulfilling life. It is the idea that someone has a purpose and meaning to the things that they do. A flourishing person is not just going through the motions. Instead, they realize that there is a higher purpose for their life, and they look for opportunities to fulfill it.
Someone once said that the two most important days of a person’s life are the day that they are born and the day they find out why. God created us with a purpose in mind. Fulfilling our purpose is why we are here. It is what drives us in life.
Are you living a flourishing life? A life that is committed to the purpose that God gave you? God did not design our lives so that we might simply exist. He wants us to live a flourishing life, fulfilled by the purpose that He has for each of us to do.
