Looking for an open door

Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds. — Colossians 4:3

One of the most frustrating things in life is when you are looking for a door and cannot seem to find one. On several occasions, I have had this experience. Maybe I was at a large store or event, and I was ready to go home. It seems like you can look forever to find an exit door sometimes.

Doors are also used to explain opportunities. There are many times we look for opportunities in life and it seems that we cannot find one. Perhaps it is an opportunity to find a new job, better car, or even just a great deal on something we need. We often look for a variety of opportunities in life.

That’s exactly what Paul was referring to here; he was looking for an opportunity. Paul shared with the people that he was hoping to find an open door to share the gospel of Christ. While a lot of other people were searching for opportunities for many other things, Paul just wanted the opportunity to share Jesus.

We may often spend our lives looking for open doors of opportunity for our personal lives, but how often do we look for opportunities to share Jesus? We may be quick to accept other opportunities in life, seizing the moment. But do we seize the moment when we have a chance to share Jesus?

As we go about our day, we should be praying and asking God to show us open doors to share Christ. You don’t have to be a well-spoken pastor or even a traveling missionary like Paul. God uses ordinary people to share Jesus every day. We just have to be looking for an open door!
