Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth? — Galatians 5:7

The Olympic Games often catch the attention of the world while they are taking place. In the summer Olympics, I have often been fascinated by the running. It is amazing to me to watch how the runners all start at the same starting line and how they approach the race. Many of them start off strong, but then something happens.

In some instances, the runners have collided. Perhaps they step on the foot of another runner and it causes them to fall. Others have tripped or slipped on wet ground. Up until that point, they were running strong. I even remember one race where the runners were near the front of the field, but fell and ended up not finishing the race.

Paul often writes about the idea of running a race when referencing the Christian life. In this verse to the Galatians, he shares that they were running well, but something hindered them. The word he used means to hinder or drive back. It gives the idea of someone crossing the track in front of someone else, pushing them off course.

There are many things that can push us off course in our Christian life. You can be running your race well, but something happens. What has hindered your race? Maybe something caused you to slip and fall. Perhaps someone came across your path and disrupted your race. Your race does not have to end this way!

No matter what may have disrupted your race, today is a great day to get back on your feet and in the race. Set aside the distractions of this world and of those around you. Instead, focus on Jesus and the prize that is ahead!
