Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. — Revelation 3:20
A few days ago, I saw a video on social media that made me laugh. Someone was highlighting the differences in society today from many years ago. The first part of the video had a doorbell that rang, followed by someone cleaning up all around the house in a hurried fashion before opening the door.
The second part of the video also had a ringing doorbell, but this time, they picked up their phone and looked at their doorbell camera. Then, the person started hiding so they couldn’t be seen, turning off the lights. Certainly, technology has changed society and how we interact with others. There is much less visiting of houses today than in years past.
I remember growing up when someone would ring the doorbell or knock on the door. You had to make a decision. Were you going to open the door or wait? If you knew who it was, were they welcome in your home? That is ultimately the question we faced, were they welcome.
In this verse, we see the willingness of God to come into our life and our homes and be part of them. He wants to come in. But is He welcome? If we were at our home today and God showed up, would we open the door?
There are many people who claim to love God and say that they want to grow in their relationship with God, but God is not welcome in their life and home. When it comes to welcoming Him in, they would rather shut Him out. They want the title, but do not want to sacrifice their will for His.
If you examine your life today, Is God welcome at your house? It’s more than just having a Bible or attending church. It is allowing Him into your heart in a personal relationship with Him. It is living for His will, not your will. God wants to join us in all aspects of our lives, but is he welcome?
