Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. — 1 Peter 1:18-19

On several occasions, I have been able to see something that has been called priceless, precious, or rare. I remember walking into a museum once and seeing gold bars on display. They talked about how rare and precious those gold bars were. No one was able to touch them as they simply could not take the risk.

In another instance, I was able to see a very rare painting. While many replicas had been created, this was the original and there was nothing else like it. When I asked how much they thought the painting was worth, I was told it was priceless. No amount of money could buy it or replace it.

While this world views priceless, precious, and rare treasures differently, Christians have personal experience with such things. Peter says we are not redeemed by the things that this world believes are precious. Instead, we are redeemed by the precious blood of Christ.

The original word is timios, which means honored, esteemed, valued, precious, or dear. If we think of the definition of precious, it means not to be wasted or treated carelessly. That’s how amazing the blood of Jesus really is. The best part is that it was given so you and I might be redeemed!

While the world might be filled with things that are called priceless, precious, or rare, the redeeming blood of Jesus tops them all! Nothing else could redeem us from our sins. It is a priceless and precious treasure that we have within. Today, take a moment to reflect on this amazing gift and praise Him!

Across the world, Christians need the encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians accept Jesus Christ as Savior.
