And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow. — Matthew 13:3
I had the opportunity to meet a lot of interesting people as I traveled across the country for work. On various flights, I sat beside pilots, executives, athletes, and more. It wasn’t uncommon for us to talk about what they did and how they became successful. Most of them shared that they were blessed to be in the position they were in, but all shared one trait.
They put in a lot of effort. Many of them practiced their skills day in and out. For example, I remember one athlete who told me he usually practiced 3-4 hours daily. One Delta pilot shared with me how he will often find himself in a simulator honing his skills to fly the large jets.
It wasn’t that the athletes weren’t gifted athletes or that the pilot was not a skilled pilot. In fact, I imagine if you put either of them in their area of skill, they would probably have outperformed most people. However, they realized that they needed to put in the effort in order to be the best at their skill.
The same goes for us in our Christian life. It is no secret that living a Christian life in this world takes effort. But are we putting in the effort to be the best that we can be? Or are we simply putting in the least amount of effort just to get to a level of comfort?
Simply getting by means not being as close to God as we could be. It means not living the life in front of others that God would want us to live. Instead, God wants to give us more! But for us to be closer to God and live the life that God wants us to live, it means we have to be putting in the effort.
Across the world, there are Christians who need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. Another Well Ministries is a non-profit ministry that relies on donations to continue our work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
