I will praise thee, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works. — Psalm 9:1

When I was younger, I loved playing sports. You would find me playing some sport nearly all day. It was my entire focus in life. For many years, the basketball team I played with was the same group of boys and coach. The coach did his best to help us understand various aspects of basketball and would try to encourage us as we played in big games.

He would often call us aside and talk about doing our best and giving our all while we played. He would talk about the plan we put in place for the game, the upcoming moments of the game, and then he would end by saying, “Give it all you got.”

In life, it can be easy for us to become split in our focus and attention. No matter which way we turn, something wants our attention. But I am often caught by the words in the Psalms, where it often says “my whole heart.” It wasn’t something with divided attention or affection but a total commitment of the heart to one cause.

Here, David says that he will praise the Lord with his whole heart. Every ounce of his heart, every single force of his being, and every single moment of detail would be given to God in praise for all the goodness of God. For all God had done, He was worthy of complete and total praise!

We should all feel this way about what God has done for us. If we look back on all the moments of our lives, we can recall the many amazing works of God. Our hearts should praise God. But not just in part. We should give it all we’ve got!

Across the world, there are Christians who need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. Another Well Ministries is a non-profit ministry that relies on donations to continue our work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
