And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only. — Matthew 17:8
At times, one of the most challenging things to accomplish is to get someone to focus. If you are a parent, you know exactly what I am talking about. Children can be so easily distracted by things going on around them. Just a simple walk through the store can be overwhelming. From candy to snacks or even the latest toy, it seems they want to draw their attention to things.
But it doesn’t get much better as adults. Things around us want our attention. People want our attention, jobs want our attention, and anything else you can think of. Even when you can escape for a few moments, it can be challenging to clear your mind of all the things that want your focus. We can often find ourselves being easily distracted.
That is undoubtedly how Satan would like it. He would love nothing more than for us to be distracted from the most important things in life. If we are distracted, we aren’t worried about living for God, sharing Jesus, and pointing others to Christ. That’s one of the reasons I love this verse in Matthew.
With so many other things going on around them in these moments, as the disciples opened their eyes, all they saw was Jesus. They didn’t see problems, cares, or struggles. They didn’t see the distractions of the world. Instead, they saw the Savior. He was the center of their focus.
What in this life has you easily distracted? We can be easily distracted by possessions, people, problems, and so much more. Instead of being easily distracted, our eyes should be focused on Jesus. Our desire should be that we are so focused on Jesus that our every thought and action points others to Him. Are we being easily distracted, or are we focused solely on the Savior?
Across the world, there are Christians who need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior.
