Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter. — John 13:7

There were many times in my life when I was told that I would understand something later. For example, many times, one of my Paramedic instructors would say something about it making sense one day. His name was Tim, and he would often share how an event or experience shaped his career or personal life. I continue to see how right he was every day.

I also remember my parents saying it a lot when I was younger. They would often look at me and say, “You will understand it one day.” They weren’t wrong. One of those statements was about how fast time passes as you get older. The older I get, the faster time seems to go.

The disciples did not have any understanding of what was happening on this day. They didn’t understand that Jesus would soon die. They didn’t fully understand the sacrifice and service that would be required of them in the coming days. But Jesus told them that one day, they would understand what He was doing and why.

As God works in our lives, we don’t always understand the things that are taking place. Perhaps we don’t understand why He says no. Or maybe we don’t understand why He does not grant healing in sickness and pain. Sometimes, the answer to our questions is simply, “One day, you will understand.”

The answer to the situation is not for us to doubt God or to give up on God. God is in control of our situation and circumstances. He is doing things in our lives according to His divine will. We may not understand what is happening right now, but one day, we will.

Across the world, there are Christians who need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. As a non-profit ministry, Another Well Ministries relies on donations to continue our work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
