By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they were compassed about seven days. — Hebrews 11:30
Probably anyone reading this is familiar with the story of the walls of Jericho. In the book of Joshua, we read the story of how Joshua was told to walk around the city for seven days. For the first six days, they would walk around the city walls once. On the seventh day, they would walk around the city seven times.
Once they walked around the city for the seventh time, the priests were to blow their trumpets. Then, the people would shout as loud as they could. At that moment, the walls of the city would fall. It sounds like a ridiculous story to most, but archaeological discoveries in the area have proven the story true on every basis of the story.
While the story is often used to relate God’s amazing power and faith, I wonder what would have happened if the people there simply decided to quit before day 7? There were probably thoughts in their mind about how this would never work. They never saw the wall rumbling, or even appearing to fall. How would this even be possible?!
If we are all honest, there are no doubt times that we can look back on in our lives when we were tempted to give up and quit. There are so many times it seems it would just be easier to quit rather than continue on. But what if we are in that moment right before God is ready to do something in our situation?
God knows exactly what you are going through in life. He knows exactly what you need and He is not simply sitting back and letting you suffer. He has a plan and a purpose, but that plan doesn’t involve quitting. Instead, God wants us to have faith and trust Him. Don’t quit now, keep your faith in God!
Across the world, there are Christians that need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior.
