Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. — Matthew 11:28
It was a couple of years ago now that I remember being extremely busy in life. I would work all day and continue to work into the night. There were many hours spent away from my family and I knew it. My full-time job was demanding. I was working on secondary jobs and it seemed every day that went by I continued to grow more and more tired.
When I did have a break, the first thing I wanted to do was rest. There was something about being home, relaxing, and letting the cares of this life go for a few moments. If we are all honest, we can probably all admit there are times we want nothing more than a little rest.
Life is extremely demanding. No matter where we turn, there is more work that can be done. There are challenges, circumstances, and events that happen which will cause us to grow weary. But I’m thankful that we don’t have to stay that way. We have a place of rest!
Jesus said in this verse that He would give rest to the weary. To the one who is facing uncertainty, He will give you rest. For those who are dealing with the fast pace of life, He can give you rest. Dealing with a broken heart? He has rest for you. Facing circumstances that have you stressed? He can give you rest too!
Whether you are facing sickness, death, heartache, adversity, trials, or anything else life may bring, there is a place of rest. That rest is found in Jesus. Do you need rest in your life today? Tell Jesus. I’m reminded of the words of the old hymn titled I Must Tell Jesus. In that hymn are these words, “I must tell Jesus. Jesus can help me, Jesus alone.” No matter what you need rest from, Jesus can provide it.
