Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. — James 4:8
Over the past few years since we have adopted my son, I have noticed something about him when he spends time with others. He starts acting like them. He will mimic their actions and statements. If he is around some of his friends, he will want to play the same games they do or with the same toys they do.
He is the same way when he spends time with his grandparents or me and my wife. He will often mimic the actions of one of his grandparents and then tell us he is acting like them. Those actions are common to see in children as they are learning in life. But to be honest, we as adults are not much different.
When we have friends that enjoy things, we often mimic those actions and enjoy them. If we spend time with someone that has a specific hobby we find interesting, we may become involved in that hobby. We even start acting like those we spend time with at work. The “experts” call this mirroring.
As Christians, we are called to live our lives separated to God. That means we are to be Christ-like, living in the example that He gave. But how can we ever live that example in our lives if we never spend time with God? Spending time with God should be at the top of our priority list.
Today, take a few moments to reflect. Are you spending enough time with God so that you can mirror Him through your life? If we do not spend time with God, we can never expect to live our Christian life to its fullest potential.
Across the world, there are Christians that need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. As a non-profit ministry, Another Well Ministries relies on donations to continue our work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
