How much less in them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, which are crushed before the moth?  — Job 4:19

It was just a few years ago that there was a court case to remove the saying, “In God We Trust” from all US money. The statement was adopted as our national motto and was first placed on coins in 1864. It was then placed on paper money in 1955. But it wasn’t until 1956 that Congress passed the bill making “In God We Trust” the national motto of the United States.

While the case ultimately was lost at the Supreme Court, it was a focal point in 2019 when it happened. Polls showed that there were groups of Americans who supported removing the statement from US money. One student was quoted as saying the US is a secular nation and should be removed. Another said the statement should be left because it is simply a motto.

But those words should be so much more than just a motto that is printed or engraved on our money. Society will teach us that we should put our faith and trust in ourselves. We learn we can do anything if we “set our mind to it.”

But this verse in Job reminds us that our foundation is dust. We are simply made of dust, blessed by God with life in this world for a brief moment. Instead of trusting in ourselves, we should place our trust in the one who is in control of the world!

What is our trust in today? Are we trusting in ourselves and our ability, or in the God who is in control of all things? The only certain and sure thing we have in this life is God. Doesn’t it make sense that we place all of our trust in Him?

Across the world, there are Christians that need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and helping non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. As a non-profit ministry, Another Well Ministries relies on donations to continue our work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
