For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.  — 2 Corinthians 5:21

I’ll never forget the time that my son tried chocolate candy. It was not long after his adoption and I had a bag of milk chocolate candy that I had brought home from the store. I knew there was a lot of things that he was unable to have in the orphanage in China and I wanted to see if he liked chocolate.

I remember unwrapping the foil wrapper around the piece of candy and handing it to him. He studied the candy carefully and then put it in his mouth. He immediately shared that he wanted more. When I offered him another piece, that wasn’t enough. He said that the entire bag was his, he wanted them all! For someone who had most likely never had chocolate before, he was obsessed.

While sin and chocolate are certainly two different things, that story came to my remembrance when I read over this verse recently. Jesus knew no sin. He was perfect, sinless, having never once experienced sin. Yet, he took on our sins so that we might be made righteous.

He was the perfect Son of God, without spot or blemish as scripture tells us. Yet, He loved us so much that He was not just willing to take part of our sin, but all of our sin! He knew that without His sacrifice, a permanent solution to sin would never take place.

I’m so glad that my Savior was not willing to just take one of my sins, but instead He took them all. He took all of yours too! Providing the way for forgiveness and eternal life. That’s something worthy to praise Him for today. But if you have never accepted Him, it’s not too late! Accept Christ today!
