Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. — Philippians 2:4
It is certainly no secret that we live in a social media driven world. With social media, the world has changed so much. Families and friends that used to spend time together and share life together no longer do that. Instead, we scroll through a social media feed where we hear the latest opinions, see the latest photos, and try to keep up.
Please don’t get me wrong, I certainly believe that social media has a place in the world. We are living in a society that is less dependent on neighborhood and community than ever before. It’s not uncommon for families to be separated by hundreds of miles. It’s a great tool to be able to stay in touch.
While social media is not the only driving factor, the truth is that our society has significantly changed. Our lives were designed by God to share a personal connection with others. That connection was not to brag about our latest purchase or accomplishment, but instead to help each other make it through a crazy thing called life. Paul reminded the Philippians of just that here in this verse.
He shared with them that they should not be focused on their own things, but that we should be concerned about others as well. That’s not to be nosy in their lives, gossiping about them, or anything of that sort. It was that we should be concerned about their burdens, trials, and spiritual well-being. We should want those around us to know Jesus Christ as Savior and to help them by listening and praying for them as we go through life.
With all the craziness in our lives, do you remember to care for others around you? Do we share our desire for them to have a close relationship with God and to join them in prayer over their burdens and trials? God did not design us to go through life alone. He created our lives so that we can help each other until we reach our eternal home.
As you reflect on this today, we encourage you to join us in prayer for others on our prayer wall. Here, you can share your prayer requests and let others know that you are praying for them. After all, we are in this together until we all reach home.
