But I have trusted in thy mercy; my heart shall rejoice in thy salvation.  — Psalm 13:5

Several years ago, insurance company Allstate rolled out a new advertising campaign. They used the slogan, “You’re in good hands.” The idea was that if you use their insurance product, they could protect you from various situations in life. The slogan is certainly a catchy one.

Some of their commercials have been pretty catchy as well. It’s always telling when the celebrity that does the commercials appears and has his notorious bandage on his head. He’s always in some sort of situation that ends in what they refer to as “mayhem.” The commercials depict various things that could happen in life that would cause stress and chaos amid so many other things.

The company wants you to put your trust in them to protect you. Truthfully, they cannot prevent things from happening in life. Each and every day that we live is another chance for something to happen that will disrupt how things are going for us. These things will cause us to feel stressed, depressed, and about a thousand other descriptors that we could use to describe the feelings we would have.

In this Psalm, David was facing some mayhem in his life. He started the Psalm by asking how long God would allow him to suffer. He was perplexed through the difficulties and the challenges he faced. But we find here that he placed his trust in God’s mercy. He knew that his heart would rejoice in God’s deliverance from the situation.

Things are going to happen in life, but we must realize that we are in good hands! No one can care for or protect us like God can! He can provide confidence, safety, and guidance no matter what you are facing. Don’t put your trust in anyone else but God. With God, you’re in good hands!
