So I bought her to me for fifteen pieces of silver, and for an homer of barley, and an half homer of barley. — Hosea 3:2
My family and I were at a store not so long ago when my wife found something that she was really interested in. She picked up the item, but it did not have a price tag anywhere on it. She turned the item every direction, but nothing gave any indication of how much the item was going to cost.
She took the item to the register as she paid for other items. When the employee got to the item in question, my wife asked that she share how much the item cost. It took a minute, but the employee was able to find a price after putting in some information that was found on the item. What we heard was astonishing.
The price was much more than we anticipated. Immediately, my wife said she was not interested in the item at that price. We paid for our other items and left the store, leaving the expensive item behind. I remember as we walked out and she said the words, “that price is crazy! No one would pay that much for something like that.”
The experience reminded me of the story of Hosea and Gomer. Hosea redeemed his wife from slavery, for half the price of a normal slave. To everyone else, Gomer was worthless. To Hosea, she was worth everything. How much this story reminds me of my own redemption!
Too many people in this world, we may not seem like very much. They may see us as worthless, but to God, He sees us as worth everything! I’m so glad He didn’t think the price was crazy. What an amazing love and redemption story for each of us! If you have not experienced the redemption of Jesus Christ, find out more today.
