Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. — 1 John 4:4

Just a couple of months ago, I read the story of Lucy Westlake. Lucy reached the summit of Mt Everest on May 12, 2022. She wasn’t the first to have reached the summit, but she was the youngest American female to ever reach the summit. She shared photos of her accomplishment just two weeks ahead of her high school graduation.

In interviews after her climb, she shared of the struggles and challenges that she faced during her journey. Obviously climbing the highest peak in the world does not come without its challenges. I have heard many describe the loneliness they experienced as they described their experience on Mt Everest and Lucy was no different. She shared how she spent 26 days away from family and how that was the most difficult part. Just because she was away from her family, did not mean that her family was no longer there. It was simply a feeling.

While we may have never climbed Mt Everest, many of us can relate to Lucy in her feeling alone. It seems that a lot of times we find ourselves feeling alone when we go through the difficult times of life. Even though we may have people around us, we can feel alone. 1 John 4:4 reminds us that we are truly never alone. We have one living in us that is greater than anything of this world!

Our lives will bring about mountains that we must climb. To reach the mountaintop, you will face situations that test you beyond what you feel you are capable of. Lucy shared that many times during her climb, she felt she reached the end of her “rope” physically, but that forced her to rely on God. She said it was at those times she experienced God helping her overcome the challenges she faced.

Don’t fear the mountains because they appear challenging. They will test you and may force you to the end of your rope. Remember who lives inside you and He is greater than anything you may face!
