But cleave unto the LORD your God, as ye have done unto this day.— Joshua 23:8

I recently looked through a social media group that was talking about prayer. In the group, someone posted that they could not see God’s hand in their life working anymore. They claimed that God was finished with them and they could not go on trusting in God anymore. Amid the posts found about kids, family, politics, or jokes, was someone that was truly contemplating giving up on God.

I don’t know the person who made the post, but it is evident they found themselves in a challenging situation. They shared they were having family struggles, money struggles, and that they were just not sure if life was worth living anymore. They were so encumbered with their issues that they had lost sight of the one in control of all things.

After reading his comments, I was reminded of the words of Joshua to Israel. Israel had been through a lot. The nation had found itself in battle, divided, wandering in the desert, without food, thirsty, overwhelmed, and so many other things. Many times they also questioned and doubted God. In the words of Joshua, he reminded them to cleave to God.

Joshua reminded the people of the deliverance and the providence of God. By all accounts, the people should never have been where they were. They should have been defeated and they should have been eliminated. Yet, God was faithful and true to His word. Even when they doubted Him, God remained faithful to His word.

God has promised to be with us and care for us. We may find ourselves in the middle of trying times where we feel like giving up. We may not see a way forward, but God is still there. Don’t give up on God because you don’t see Him in the middle of your circumstance. While you cannot see Him, He sees you and knows exactly what you are going through. Hold on to God like never before. Trust Him because He will see you through.
