Who else could be God?

For who is God, save the LORD? and who is a rock, save our God? God is my strength and power: and he maketh my way perfect. — 2 Samuel 22:32 & 33

There are always events in life that remind of us important things. Many times they are tragic or overwhelming events that cause us to reflect. For example, some may say that their friend’s loss of a close family member caused them to reflect on the importance of their own family. It’s interesting how life causes us to reflect like that.

One unique reflection that I often see is that of who God is. In this example, David is reflecting on his time of being delivered from the hands of Saul. Saul wanted to kill David and David ran for his life. Saul got very close to David on many occasions, but God still delivered him from Saul and spared his life.

In these verses, David looks back on that time and asks the question, “who is God save the Lord?” To make it a little simpler, David essentially asks, who could do all the things that God has done for me other than God Himself. The depth of that question should cause us all to take a few moments to reflect on today.

Think of all the things that have happened in your life. The good times, the bad times, the joy, and the pain. Through all those times, you are probably like me and can see the hand of God working in those situations. It may have not seemed that way at first, but as you reflect on them, you can see that God had a specific plan. Maybe He was protecting you from something or perhaps He let you learn a difficult lesson to draw you closer to Him.

If you think back on all the things that God has done, who else could be God? The greatest leaders of this world could never do the things God has done for us. No government official, spiritual leader, or family member could do all the things that God has done for us. As you reflect, remember how good God has been to you. Remember all the things that He has done. No one else could do what he has done!
