It is not so easy to let go

Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. — Matthew 6:10

The Lord’s prayer is a passage of scripture that we are most likely all familiar with. Jesus shared with the people a role model of prayer. Many have repeated it in their youth and many churches still repeat it today. Some have questioned the content that is in the words of the passage, but here in verse 10, we see something that is pretty simple to understand.

Jesus shares, “thy will be done in earth, as it is in Heaven.” Anything that happens in Heaven is what God would want. The praise of God is present in Heaven and God sits on the throne in Heaven. God is fully in control of Heaven and all the things that surround it.

That’s the exact point that Jesus was trying to make here. Everything in Heaven revolves around God. Everything in Heaven is at the desire of God. It is in accordance with His divine will and purpose. While God is in control of things here on earth as well, it can often be difficult for us to willingly give our will over to God.

We want things to happen a specific way. We have our own goals and ideas in mind. Many times, our prayers are specific about God answering or doing things the way that we want them. Instead, we should be praying that God would have His will be done. That’s not so easy to pray when we want to maintain control of things on our own.

Our nature is to try and do everything we can to control the situation. Instead, Jesus teaches that we should pray that God’s will be done in everything on earth. It is not so easy to let go, even though that’s exactly what God wants. God wants us to let go and allow Him to show us His greatness and His power. No matter what is going on in your life, pray that God’s will be done and let God have it. He knows exactly what He is doing.
