Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men. – 1 Corinthians 7:23
We certainly talk about price a lot in our day. We talk about the price of gas going up, the price of groceries going up, and the price of other daily needs increasing. It seems that day after day, the price that we must pay for the things we need in our lives continues to rise, with no end in sight. We are bad to do everything in our power to buy the new shiny thing on the shelf. We like it, it appeals to us, and we want to do anything we can to get it.
That is exactly what Paul is talking about here, but in a little different sense. Paul is not talking about buying a new object with money, but rather buying our freedom from sin with the blood of Christ. How amazing is it to think that God saw us as that shiny object. He saw us, loved us, we appealed to him, and he wanted to do anything he could to set us free from our bondage of sin. So His only begotten son, Jesus Christ, paid for us through the shedding of his blood on Calvary.
We no longer have to be the servants of sin, because we were bought with a price. We were set free from sin’s bondage through Christ’s redeeming blood! That’s something to be excited about! You were so special to Him that He paid the debt that you could never pay.
