And the LORD did that thing on the morrow – Exodus 9:6

The story of Pharaoh is not a new story for most Christians. Even those who do not practice Christianity may be familiar with Pharaoh thanks to Hollywood. In Exodus 9, Pharaoh was being told to let God’s people go yet again. Time and again God sent Moses to tell Pharaoh that the people must be let go so they could serve Him. Time and again, Pharaoh refused.

The plagues became much worse as time progressed, but in this portion of the story, one thing really catches the attention of the reader. It says specifically that God did that thing on the morrow, or the next day. God had told Pharaoh that he was going to send a plague of death across the cattle, horses, camels, sheep, and that nothing of the Children of Israel’s would die. What happened? Exactly what God said would happen.

The next day did not take God by surprise. He was just as much God “on the morrow” as He was the day that Moses delivered the message. The only thing that changed was the circumstances surrounding everyone that was there that day. The only one caught by surprise was Pharaoh and his followers.

Sometimes it seems like each day around us gets worse and worse. Many times we may ask ourselves, “can this get any worse?” Then it seems just as we ask, it gets worse. The events that come into our lives today were already in God’s plan yesterday. He had already looked them over, saw all the details, and knew exactly what you would need to get through the day. We can be thankful because he is not just the God of today, but also the God of tomorrow.
